Usually you will see a constant flow of wasps coming from a hole in brickwork, air vent or fascia boards however you may also find them nesting in sheds, compost heaps, treats and roof spaces. You can tell you have a problem when you notice a lot of wasp activity, every wasp comes from a nest, so if you see a lot this signals that the nest is near. Wasps can be dangerous, especially to someone who is allergic to them, its vital you get the problem dealt with properly and quickly.

JG Environmental also provide a ‘Wasp/ hornet nest removal service’ where we can come back at a later date to remove the dormant wasp or hornet nest. If you are particularly worried about the infestation you have you may require our ‘instant removal service’ this is where our trained technician will destroy and remove the nests all in the initial visit, this is usually the preferred option for people with allergies and specifically people who react badly to wasp stings.

Please note: All removal services carry an additional charge and the actual nest must be accessible.

About Wasp/ Hornet Pests: Tree Wasps – Dolichovespula Spp

Worker Wasps are all infertile females, they all fashion a characteristic black and yellow stripe like pattern on their abdomen and are roughly 15-20 mm in length. Wasps have a fore and a hind wing on each side however as they are so close together it is difficult to make out more than 2 wings these wings are heavily veined. People often have a phobia of wasps due to their painful sting.

Wasps live in colonies, each colony is established in the spring the Queen which makes a smaller starter nest from a paper like substance made up of a combination of wood and saliva.

The colony and nest grows continuously through the summer. Towards the end of the wasp season up to 10,000 wasps can come from a single nest. Workers feed on nectar, sweet materials and at certain time of the year insect larvae and other protein rich foods.

Wasps are often found to have build their nest in cavity walls, behind guttering and fascia boards, in the ground and in trees. Usually wasp nests will be well sheltered- so you may find them in your loft space or garden shed!

In late August-October, wasps are particularly renowned for becoming a nuisance as the workers begin to become lazy & feed on sweet substances. This is when you may see ‘dopey’ wasps in your glass of sugary coke or even in your beer!

The thing to remember about wasps is that they usually only sting if they feel threatened, do not attempt to deal with a nest yourself as often you will only see the tip of the iceberg, and it could result in hundreds or thousands of angry wasps swarming you. Its best to call in a professional, our treatment is very discreet and will not aggravate the wasps too much. Usually the wasps will die off very quickly following a successful treatment.

About Bees and bee removal:

Bees nests are a series of wax cells in parallel levels, their nests are often large in comparison to wasp nests. Bumblebees nests usually consist of leaves or other organic matter, often in holes in the ground or compost heaps.

Bees are not a public health pest and should only be removed if they are a direct risk to health. Often bees may swarm and we are able to successfully remove them without harming any. We then have a specialist bee re-homing team who can then take over.

If bees have established near children’s play areas or are coming into the home we may advise at this point that an extermination technique is necessary.

No Wasps

The most usual application of treatment for wasps is a dust sprayed directly into the nest and around it. For control of wasps in an open area rather than the nest itself a powerful professional aerosol may also be used for wasp nest removal in London.

JG Environmental cover the following areas- All London postcodes including central London and other London areas including, IG, RM, BR, CR, SM, UB, HA, WD, HP, TW, KT, EN. Other areas include but NOT limited to Saint Albans AL, Chelmsford CM, Reading RG, and Guildford GU.
